After having an extension the clients wanted to be able to open up the kitchen doors and walk straight on to the patio. The emphasis here was for a family garden; somewhere for the children to play and somewhere for the family to entertain. A large sandstone patio flows around the extension and is a great space for a table and chairs as well as an area for the children to play.

The steps lead to a circular lawn surrounded mostly by shrubs and low maintenance planting. A shed for storing toys and garden equipment is tucked behind the trellis. Over the next few years the climbers and shrubs will cover the trellis making a green backdrop behind the purple Acer palmatum atropurpureum .

A fence and gate now makes the back garden secure so the children and the dogs can be supervised.
